Jacalyn paints outdoors because the world is rich with beauty and it’s the optimal way to see three dimensional objects, the subtleties of light and shadows, atmospheric perspective, and ‘real’ colors. Plein air painting is also a lot fun! I meet new friends - animal and human, have fleeting conversations with bicyclists and joggers, and experience the sounds and smells of the outdoors.

I received my MFA in Painting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. My paintings, which I began exhibiting around 1970, have been exhibited nationally and internationally and are included in many public and private collections. I’ve been Teaching Artist in Residence at Yosemite Art Center on three separate occasions and have conducted many classes and workshops on the East coast and in the Southwest.

Painting is deep in my soul, something I have to do. I love color, shadow, and the warm and cool of light, and the way it interacts with the trees, rocks, and the rivers and streams.
